About Laura

Laura (she/her) has a BSW from the University of British Columbia, MSW from Dalhousie University, and is undertaking her PhD at UBC. Since 2004, she has been counselling children, adolescents, adults, families and groups, as well as presenting to professional and community audiences on a range of topics. Laura is currently only accepting adult clients.

Laura specializes in trauma therapy (including PSTD and Complex PTSD) and works with clients around a range of referral issues, including anxiety, family dynamics, stress, life transitions, grief, meaning and change, amongst other things. She embraces a non-pathologizing approach to counselling and believes in the innate capacity of every individual to heal. Laura’s therapeutic curiosity guides inquiry into clients’ experience of their current situation, as well as their internal and external resources, including capacity to develop these to resolve or cope with referral issues. She integrates treatment approaches to fit clients needs and concerns, drawing primarily on Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Narrative Therapy, EMDR, Yoga and Mindfulness.

Laura is a Registered Clinical Social Worker (Alberta), having completed 1600 hours supervised post graduate clinical hours and the ASWB Clinical Social Work licensing exam. Clinical Social Workers are regulated under the Health Professions Act in Alberta, are authorized to use diagnostic tools including the DSM-V, and provide treatment services that are income tax deductible and can be claimed under most extended health insurance policies.
